Gifted/HG/HA STEM Magnet

Our Gifted/Highly Gifted/High Ability STEM Magnet is a Project Lead the Way school. Our program also implements Linked Learning, an approach that "integrates rigorous academic courses with career tech classes from Project Lead the Way" (PLTW). 


Learning is fun through project-based robotics lessons, the utilization of technology to problem-solve collaboratively and by creating real-world experiences, as well as demonstrating the relevance of content learning in STEM careers. While students identified as Gifted, Highly Gifted or High Ability may apply to this magnet, all students are able to enroll in STEM & PLTW electives if space is available.  Automation & Robotics
  • History, development, and influence of automation & robotics
  • Mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation & computer control systems
  • VEX Robotics platform to design, build, and program real-world objects such as robotic arms

Design & Modeling
  • Students apply the design process to solve problems, understand the influence of creativity and innovation in their lives
  • Autodesk design software to create a visual image of designs and produce a portfolio to showcase innovative solutions



Intro to Computer Science (ICS) 


  • Coding, creating apps for mobile devices 
  • Explore impact of computing in society; how it applies in various career fields

Green Architecture  


  • Students will learn about construction and architecture using Autodesk 3D architectural design software to create affordable housing units
  • Thinking toward the future; explore sustainable solutions to our energy needs
  • Investigate impact of energy on our lives and the real world
  • Design and model alternative energy sources; evaluate options for reducing energy consumption
